Business Meeting 2022 03 05 09 16 38 Utc

East Cambridgeshire DC has announced that it is revising its private rented sector enforcement policy and that it has opened a public consultation on the revision saying that it "would particularly like to hear from anyone who rents privately, and from landlords, letting agents and landlord/tenant associations.".

The consultation will run until 15th August 2022 and will cover the following draft policy revisions:

Updates to the calculation for issuing civil penalty notices to landlords of up to £30,000 for certain housing offences as an alternative to prosecution;

The addition of electrical safety regulations, including financial penalties for non-compliance;

How the council intends to regulate relevant private rented properties that don't have energy performance certificates or that fail to meet minimum energy efficiency standards;

How the council intends to regulate against letting agent and property managers who aren't members of an approved or designated redress scheme.

Cllr. Julia Huffer, chair of the operational services committees, said "Our aim is to raise standards in private sector housing throughout East Cambridgeshire, working with owners, landlords, letting agents and tenants to achieve this.".
